Bankura Banga Vidyalay, established in 1825, stands as one of the oldest and most esteemed educational institutions in the Bankura region. Originally founded as the “Sitanath Chakraborty Pathshala”, known at that time as the Bangla School, it began its journey as a government-aided vernacular institution.
Situated in Machantola, Bankura, this co‑educational day school serves students from classes VI to XII, offering instruction in both Bengali and English mediums.
Affiliated with the state education boards, the school holds the Board Index Number: J1‑016 (WBBSE), Institution Code (H.S): 114142 (WBCHSE), and houses a Vocational Training Centre with Code 5029. Over the years, Bankura Banga Vidyalay has nurtured generations of learners, consistently delivering solid academic results and fostering well-rounded development through both curricular and co‑curricular activities

Started its journey as a GOVERNMENT AIDED “SITANATH CHAKRABORTY PATHSHALA” popularly known as BANGLA SCHOOL at that time.
The Lieutenant Governor sanctioned a grant of Rs. 16.00 a month in aid and subsequently promoted the Institution (Pathshala) as the Bankura Vernacular School and also granted a donation of Rs. 100.00 for the purchase of school apparatus.
Yogesh Chandra Roy Vidyanidhi, Eminent Scholar, was admitted in this institution as a student.
Ramananda Chattopadhyay, Eminent Journalist and Editor of the reputed journal- PRABASHI, secured a prestigious scholarship.
First School building burned at Podderpukur and Secretary Sri Harihar Mukhopadhyay with help of Government of Bengal.
School building burned second time and transferred from Podderpukur to Machantola, Bankura.
The School Promoted to Middle English School.
Then The Secretary, Babu Surya Narayan Mukhopadhyay had taken leased the building for 50 years from the Govt.
The School Promoted to Madhyamik Vidyalay(10th Class). Eminent Educationalist Dr. Shyamaprasad Mukhopadhyay visited the school.
Sri Kailashnath Kataju, Then the Governor, West Bengal, visited the school.
The President of Managing Committee, Sri Anathbandhu Roy, joined as Health Minister, Govt. of West Bengal.
Promoted to Higher Secondary
Again taken leased for 30 years from the Govt.
District Computer Centre Started it’s journey.
Science, Vocational Stream and Co-education System begins.
