Bankura Banga Vidyalay
Bankura Banga Vidyalay, established in 1825, stands as one of the oldest and most esteemed educational institutions in the Bankura region. Originally founded as the “Sitanath Chakraborty Pathshala”, known at that time as the Bangla School, it began its journey as a government-aided vernacular institution.
Situated in Machantola, Bankura, this co‑educational day school serves students from classes VI to XII, offering instruction in both Bengali and English mediums.
Affiliated with the state education boards, the school holds the Board Index Number: J1‑016 (WBBSE), Institution Code (H.S): 114142 (WBCHSE), and houses a Vocational Training Centre with Code 5029. Starts the Journey
Began its journey as a Government-aided Sitanath Chakraborty Pathshala, popularly known as Bangla School.

Government Support and Institutional Upliftment
The Lieutenant Governor sanctioned a grant of Rs. 16 per month and promoted the institution as Bankura Vernacular School. A donation of Rs. 100 was also granted for purchasing school apparatus.

Notable Alumni – Yogesh Chandra Roy Vidyanidhi
Eminent scholar Yogesh Chandra Roy Vidyanidhi was admitted as a student.

Prestigious Scholarship Awarded to Ramananda Chattopadhyay
Eminent journalist Ramananda Chattopadhyay, later editor of the reputed journal Prabashi, secured a prestigious scholarship.

Rebuilding After the Podderpukur Fire
The first school building at Podderpukur was destroyed by fire. Secretary Sri Harihar Mukhopadhyay rebuilt it with help from the Government of Bengal.

Second Fire and Relocation to Machantola
The school building was burned a second time and subsequently relocated to Machantola, Bankura.

Promoted to Middle English School.

50-Year Government Lease Secured
Secretary Babu Surya Narayan Mukhopadhyay leased the building for 50 years from the Government.

Milestone Achievement and Eminent Visitor
Promoted to Madhyamik Vidyalay (10th Class). Eminent educationist Dr. Shyamaprasad Mukhopadhyay visited the school.

From School Leadership to State Health Minister – Sri Anathbandhu Roy
President of the Managing Committee, Sri Anathbandhu Roy, joined as Health Minister, Government of West Bengal.

Upgraded to Higher Secondary Education

30-Year Government Lease Renewal
The building lease was renewed for another 30 years.
